Synopsis:
Sometimes love burns so hot in your veins that it consumes
all rational thought.
That's why Brock and I never had a chance. I had to start my life over. College was my
chance to become someone new. I changed everything about myself to fit in, but
one person saw through my facade.
The attraction between Abel and I was undeniable, but I
still hadn't healed from the painful secret I carried around with me. Abel
struggled to get me to face my past in order to move forward. In doing so, he
revealed a secret of his own; one that changed everything I thought I knew.
A secret that would bring Brock back into my life and force
me to face the truth of what really happened the day I lost him.

Wendi's Review
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Read.This.Book.
Un-effing-believable!
This book was so addictive I had to continue reading just so I could see what
would happen. This is the first book I have read by Ms. Mummert and I will
definitely not be the last. I had to take a couple of days to think about this
review, because I just couldn’t put it into words how I felt about this book.
When
I first started reading this book, I thought well here we go another typical NA
book filled with angst and a damaged girl looking for her fix. Boy was I
absolutely wrong!
This
book follows Delilah, or ‘Lie’ as she is called by everyone, a damaged young
woman who is looking for an escape. She is the product of a rape, and her
mother let her know in every way she could that she was the biggest mistake of
her life. After a very huge and tragic situation she feels she caused, Lie has
left her hometown and started school in another state so she could escape her
past and start over. She leaves behind the one person who believed in her and
her one true love, Brock, because she has to escape.
She
colors her hair and wears colored contacts in order to give herself a new
identity. She made a new friend, and I use that term very loosely, in slutty Trish
and is determined to start over. Nightmares and flashbacks keep her in the past
and leaves Brock fresh on her mind. She is thrown in the middle of one of
Trish’s sexcapades and meets Abel, a reformed drug dealer. They have this easy
going chemistry that is done beautifully by the author. It is like you can just
see them bickering and hanging out right in front of you.
The
very sexy Abel knows Lie’s pain, he has a past of his own that he keeps very
secret. He feels he has to protect her because she is so fragile. I loved Abel,
but he was a real d-bag at times that made me just want to slap his face. He
had feelings for Lie, but he kept their relationship as platonic as he could
because no one knew the truth about Lie and Brock or if they were actually a
real couple. I really liked Abel, because he was a bad boy and that was no
secret.
When
the bomb drops on this book your jaw will be hanging, mine is still hanging as
we speak. I did not expect that…..
Sometimes love burns so
hot in your veins that is consumes all rational thought. You become a walking
shell that can no longer function without you significant other whispering into
your soul, telling your heart to beat.
This
is not a story for the fainthearted. It is a very real story about a very
broken girl and a damaged guy and their search for true love. If I could give
this book 18 stars I would. It is a certified Nerd Alert Book Love A+++!

Author Bio:
"I was a Russian spy at the ripe age of thirteen, given my uncanny ability to tell if someone was lying ( I also read fortunes on the weekends). By sixteen I had become too much of a handful for the Lethal Intelligence Ensemble (L.I.E.). I was quickly exiled to the south of France where I worked with wayward elephants in the Circus of Roaming Animals and People (C.R.A.P.). I was able to make ends meet by selling my organs on the black market for pocket change and beer money. At the age of twenty three I decided to expand my horizons and become a blackjack dealer in Ireland. I loved the family atmosphere at Barney's Underground Liquor Lounge (B.U.L.L.). People couldn't resist the allure of Liquor up front and poker in the rear. Eventually I became tired of the rear and headed off to the United States to try my hand at tall tales. That is what brings us here today. If you have a moment I'd like to tell you a story.
